askDD.com Launched
in January 2003, askDD.com
has already entered the public relations history books as the first free
online personal advice service for people in PR.The "agony uncle" behind askDD.com is David Davis, who has had a lifetime career in journalism and public relations. The idea was born at a London dinner party conversation he had with a young PR agency executive who said that he was unable to discuss career opportunities with his boss for fear of losing his job. "I realised that there must be many other people in similar situations who needed help," says Davis, former reporter with The Times and vice chairman of Edelman Public Relations Worldwide. He answers every question personally, not only offering advice on their job and careers but also how to deal with their own personal fears and inner most feelings as well as social concerns such as sex, drugs and drink. askDD.com has quickly built an international following among people in every aspect of the PR world - graduates entering the profession, seasoned practitioners, agency owners and company executives who manage PR and marketing communications departments. In addition to the free Q&A service, askDD.com also currently offers a portfolio of short White Papers on industry issues; The Knowledge Bank, containing a selection of anonymous questions & answers categorised under 12 different headings, such as Clients, Recruitment, Personal Development, Financial, Relationships; individual email mentoring for senior executives in companies; Special coaching for founders of new and ambitious agencies; and a guide to more than 6,000 PR meeting venues in Great Britain & Ireland. A downloadable book - The Best of askDD - has been produced and many other innovative services are being planned for the rest of 2003 and beyond.
