[+] WELCOME TO AGENCYWIRE
-------------------------------------------------------------------
It's a modest start - but we're a modest operation! Welcome to
AgencyWire, and we hope you find it useful. If so, tell us why. If
not, tell us why. Even if you're indifferent, drop us a line.
The format is pretty straightforward, and don't be surprised if it
evolves over the coming months. We've clipped some interesting PR
stories in the press so you can keep up with global events in the
industry (let us know if you want more like this), and we've
included some of the most notable additions to some of our other
sites, including newsnext.com and ClickProfiles.
In the coming weeks we'll also include suitable additions to
ReachRadio (http://www.reachradio.co.uk) and SimpleScout
(http://www.simplescout.co.uk) when they get started, so be sure
keep an eye out for that.
We'll probably drop in the odd tidbit as well here and there (today
really is World Food Day, by the way - click here
http://tinyurl.com/r40d for more info), as we'd like to think they
are short, harmless and useful idea prompters. Tell us if we're
wrong. Or tell us if we're right.
For now, the rest is up to you. We want to hear your news - whether
it's an account win or a senior appointment or something a little
more off-the-wall, you'll find notes on how to contribute at the
end of this newsletter.

[+] MEDIA FRIENDSHIPS - HERE TODAY, GONE TOMORROW
Media people around the world now have the chance to search for old
colleagues with the launch of http:/www.mediabuddies.com, the
industry's first reunion website.
Mediabuddies' membership is exclusively for press, radio,
television and photojournalists, public relations, advertising,
public relations and marketing executives, researchers and
corporate designers, whether or not they are staff, freelance or
retired.
Hundreds of members - young and the not so young - currently come
from the United, States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, New
Zealand, India, South Africa, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Spain,
Singapore and Malaysia. The numbers are growing fast and reunions
are being reported daily.
The site has been founded by David Davis, former journalist with
The Times and vice chairman of Edelman Public Relations Worldwide,
after he had failed to trace any former colleagues from his first
reporter's job on a weekly newspaper in Surrey, England.
Davis says: "Media people live in a world of their own. A world
in
which you meet many people, get to know some but where real
friendships are hard to come by and certainly more problematical to
keep. Thats the downside of an anti-social lifestyle that can
change course with a single telephone call. You are faced with a
future life of fleeting relationships whether you are a reporter on
a trade magazine, a roving foreign correspondent for a major TV
news network, or an account handler in an advertising or public
relations agency."
In his search, Davis first tried telephone calls and then the
Internet.
He recalls: "I quickly hit a brick wall and as my desire for
answers grew, it dawned on me how much the different facets of the
media world are inter-related and the number of people who had
played a part in my career began to quadruple. My list of grew
geometrically into print & broadcast journalists, PR executives,
news photographers, corporate spokespeople and advertising
specialists. Then I realised that my situation could be multiplied
thousands of times and there was a vast global population of 'lost'
friends and contacts."
In addition to the search & contact service, Mediabuddies can enjoy
sharing stories and memories at The Forum while an Assignments
Directory has been created for freelancers only to offer their
services

[+] PRESS RELEASE ME, LET ME GO...
In celebration of its fifth birthday, Edinburgh PR firm, Great
Circle is the first agency to host a poet in residence. Two leading
Scottish wordsmiths, Elspeth Murray and Donny O'Rourke are each to
spend a week with Great Circle, learning about the company,
attending meetings, performing poetry and running writing workshops
for employees and clients alike. In association with the Scottish
Poetry Library, the project is part funded by Arts and Business
Scotland and will culminate in an outdoor 'Renga' and then a
'poetry party'. The work written by the poets during their
residencies will be given its first public airing.
Great Circle hopes that the project will help to inspire its
employees, clients and business partners to be confident in their
use of words during their every day work. The firm also hopes that
the residencies will offer the poets fresh insights and inspiration
for their own work.
The whole thing was the brainchild of Great Circle Director, Rachel
Jones: "It has been said that opening up ourselves to scrutiny
from
poets is worse than any due diligence audit. I don't know if this
is the case, but based on our experience thus far, I cannot imagine
a due diligence audit being as much fun and I certainly cannot
think of a better way of celebrating five years of survival in the
jungle that is the PR industry."
Elspeth Murray kicked off the project with a week spent learning
about the Great Circle team, warming up client meetings with some
of her work, offering insights into story telling, guerrilla poetry
recitals and offering employees and clients alike the chance to
have fun with words. What inspired and indeed horrified her during
the week will be revealed at the end of October. A clue can perhaps
be found in the first poem that Elspeth created during her
residency - a short ditty based on the employees' tea and coffee
requirements - something along the lines of 'tea, strong, one
sugar, china cup please!'
Donny O'Rourke is planning to use the ballad as a basis for
exploring words and creativity as well as applying the ballad
structure to the creation of press stories. A load of tosh perhaps,
but not if you know that Donny was head of Culture at BBC Scotland
and is a regular contributor to print and broadcast media on a
range of issues (as well as being a highly regarded poet). His
insight into the media should add an extra frisson to his residency
and keep Great Circle on its toes.
Commenting on the project, Barclay Price, Director of Arts &
Business Scotland said: "We were extremely enthusiastic about the
project when Rachel brought the proposal to us. It fits in well
with our aims of bringing artists and arts organisations into the
business realm, where both parties can benefit. In this case, the
prospect of poets working with an organisation offering
communication expertise was an opportunity not to be missed. The
project is also an excellent example of a small company interacting
with the local arts community in a creative and positive way."

[+] WWW.HELLOMAGAZINE.COM ANNOUNCES RE-DESIGN OF SITE
www.hellomagazine.com has a new look. The homepage and main
sections have been re-designed to reflect the changing needs of its
online readers and to give the site a more contemporary feel.
The homepage, plus the sections Celebrities, Actors and Actresses,
Musicians, Fashion and Models and Royalty and Statesmen, already
reflect the new look, with different colours and easier to navigate
bars.
Tree Elven, Website Editor said: "The site launched over two years
ago and it was time for a revamp. We've incorporated cooler colours
and bolder headlines for a more defined look without disturbing our
overall image - regular readers won't suddenly wonder where they
are with the new design! The homepage and main sections were the
first for the treatment and we will be rolling out the new design
for the other pages over the next few weeks."
